REMIX 2026: Chinese Opera, Horror Theatre, a TCM Milk Tea Bar, SCCC's Youth Festival Is Back
The Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre hands its building over to young artists, dancers, musicians, and game designers every July for REMIX. The 2026 edition runs from 3 to 12 July, with programmes spread across the centre at 1 Straits Boulevard, on the edge of Chinatown.
Most events are free. Some are ticketed. The entire festival is eligible for SG Culture Pass credits. The centre is about a 12-minute walk from Chinatown MRT, five minutes from Shenton Way MRT, and ten minutes from Tanjong Pagar MRT.
Theatre, Music, and a Haunted School Room
Two theatre pieces anchor the festival. ff, on 4 and 5 July, is staged as a haunted school co-curricular practice room. The cast includes musicians on erhu, yangqin, sheng, and percussion, with a soundscape by Singaporean composer Sulwyn Lok. The premise is simple: a Chinese orchestra rehearsal gradually unravels into something supernatural. It is rare to see Chinese instruments used for horror in local theatre.
Finding X runs 3 to 5 July and again from 10 to 12 July. It follows a Singaporean girl wrestling with the expectations of gender, beauty, and society. The story is contemporary, and the production comes from an emerging creative team.
Photography and a Tea Bar
A Living Stage: Stories of Chinese Opera is a photography exhibition by Project Obscura that runs until 4 October. The images follow Sin Yen Lin Hokkien Opera through rehearsals and backstage moments, documenting the elaborate makeup, costume trunks, and the quiet concentration before a performer steps on stage.
Botanica Brews is a pop-up milk tea bar by Amacha running on the festival weekends, 3 to 5 July and 10 to 12 July. Visitors customise their own TCM-inspired herb blend in a cup of roasted milk tea for $10. The choices include goji berries, red dates, and chrysanthemum. It works as a gentle entry point into the idea that food and medicine come from the same cultural root.
Dance, Singing, and an Escape Game
The rest of the programme is fast and varied. There is a street dance competition, an a cappella competition, open jam sessions, and REMIX The Mission: Ah Ma's Secret Recipe. The escape game runs 4 to 5 July and 11 to 12 July from 1pm to 8:30pm, starting from the VIP Lounge on Level 9. Teams move through the SCCC building solving clues that test their knowledge of local Chinese culture and dialects.
Two creative weekend markets round out the programme, giving visitors a reason to stay after a show or workshop. The markets feature independent makers, artists, and small-batch food vendors.

If REMIX leaves you wanting more, the Federation of Art Societies Singapore presents the National Day Art Exhibition 2026 at SCCC from 11 to 15 August. Admission is free. It is a natural follow-up for anyone already in the area for National Day.
