Xiang Xiang Cooked Food (香香小食) is a traditional hawker stall at Chinatown Complex Green Zone #02-068 that has been serving handmade Chinese sweet snacks and kueh for over 30 years. Led by 74-year-old Madam Hee and her son, this dedicated family operation requires extraordinary commitment - they wake up at 10pm daily to begin preparing their handmade treats for the early morning crowd. Their signature sweet potato balls (番薯蛋/地瓜球) are crafted from a perfect blend of mashed sweet potato and glutinous rice flour, delivering a tender, chewy bite with crispy skin and natural sweetness. The stall also offers popular items like Ondeh Ondeh ( for 5 pieces) and Fried Sesame Balls () filled with bean or peanut paste. Operating from 6:00am until sold out (typically by 9am on weekends, 10am at latest), Xiang Xiang attracts dedicated queues from opening time as customers seek these authentic, freshly made traditional snacks. Closed Mondays, this establishment represents the tireless dedication of Singapore's hawker heritage, where generations of families maintain traditional recipes and cooking methods to preserve authentic flavors for early risers and snack enthusiasts.
Was recommended this place by a colleague, and when I heard that they sell out by 8am, I decided to make a trip down. I woke up at 5am on a Saturday and caught the first bus from my place to Chinatown Complex.
There was already a queue at the stall when I reached at 6.30am but I managed to get everything on the menu except for the tapioca sandwich. All the items were really yummy, though I felt the ondeh ondeh was a bit too large.
After having breakfast and coffee and returning to the stall at 7.54am, they had already switched off their lights and were sold out. So come early if you want to have a taste of these items.

I once joked that on my birthday, I would be content if I could have my stomach’s worth of sweet potato balls from this stall. Yes it’s that good. And perhaps I wasn’t joking. They sell out by 730am so the early bird catches the worms (balls).

Very delicious. Price increased by 20% to 33%.
Fried sweet potato balls taste just like how my late-grandma made it. Also like the sesame ball, ondeh ondeh, putu mayam. No artificial colouring in the food, just the way I like it.

Takeaway onden onden & steamed tapioca ($2.80 total), was extremely good! My personal favourite!

Got some ondeh ondeh ($2 for 4) when I was here on a workday Tue 7:30am. Thick skin with substantial melting Gula Melaka cube in the middle.
I sense frustration of some reviewers who journey all the way only to find items are sold out. I view this as decent snacks (grab only if you’re in the area) by very hardworking couple wishing to only sell certain volume each day
